Crain's Chicago Business In this week's Crain's, reporter Shia Kapos covered our wonderful event at Chicago's famed French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial, celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. We enjoyed a fabulous five course meal, and guests were treated to our traditional reciting of Lord Tennyson's "Ring Out, Wild Bells" poem - always a propitious and declarative introduction into the new lunar new year! ZEN'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE
Hi everyone, it's Zen, and I want to tell you why February is an important month. It's the month of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the most important Chinese holiday.
Let me tell you about the holiday. There are many celebrations - people wear red clothes to celebrate, and kids get "lucky" money in red envelopes. (I love this part!) The celebrations last for about 15 days and at the end there's a lantern festival. The lights are really pretty. During the lantern festival there's a dragon dance - it is way cool - the dragon is super long and there's loud music and everyone dances in the streets.
A lot of people have been asking me about our very fun trip to Laos and Thailand over the Christmas break. It was awesome!! I know my dad sent some pictures to you in last month's newsletter, but let me tell you, the pictures don't tell half the story. We had a blast - especially with the elephants! I say every kid should get to hang out with elephants for a day and give them a bath and ride them and paint pictures with them. You can read more about my adventure with the elephants and our entire excellent family adventure on my Dad's blog: www.KiplingandClark.blogspot.com
Well, I have to go do my homework now. Happy Chinese New Year!
Yours Truly, Zen, World Traveler
