Hong Kong
We cannot think of another city on the globe that can match the skyline/harbor of Hong Kong–it's truly one of the most magnificent settings in the world. For those of you who plan to visit China, Hong Kong makes an ideal transition point from China for your flight back to the U.S. Hong Kong has a unique mix of traditional Chinese culture with the fast paced, high-tech glitz of a world urban capital. The hotels and restaurants of Hong Kong exemplify the very highest levels of service of any city in the world. Although we prefer the quiet Chinese elegance of the Mandarin Hotel, Bev and I also highly recommend the Peninsula (5 star luxury in a British colonial setting) and the Intercontinental (modern, western-style design with the most spectacular views of the harbor and Hong Kong Island). Perhaps no city in Asia has the variety and quality of restaurants as Hong Kong. We love Vong at the Mandarin, Indochine (Vietnamese) in Hong Kong Island's "Soho" district, and the Verandah at Repulse Bay (great food in a British colonial setting). Also don't miss Felix, the Phillip Stark designed restaurant/bar on the 28th floor of the Peninsula. Felix offers east-west food in a hip setting with incomparable views of Hong Kong Island. Dont' miss the views from the restrooms!
